MAGGIE

The Oaks Community welcomes our 1st therapy dog, Maggie! Maggie has been in extensive training to become a therapy dog.  What’s a therapy dog?   AKC states,  “therapy dogs are dogs who go with their owners to volunteer in settings such as schools, hospitals, and nursing homes. . .therapy dogs and their owners work together as a team to improve the lives of other people.”

Maggie will be a part of the counseling sessions at The Oaks Rooted Program, and sometimes will be found at the outpatient center.  She will assist clients while they process various emotions, including trauma and grief.  Maggie will sense when clients are being activated and will help the client to be grounded.    Maggie is already displaying helper qualities and will be a great asset in helping  clients in their healing journey.  Dogs can be a man’s best friend, and a great helper in a therapy session.  When Maggie is not with clients, she loves long, long walks, playing at the beach, and making new friends, especially those who will play fetch with her.
