The Power of Poetry

Poems can be a powerful way to express how we’re feeling. It is healthy to express our thoughts and feelings to our loved ones and also to God. While you might feel like you need a “format” or a “right way” to talk to God, He’s thrilled to listen to your honesty and your creativity that can be expressed through a poem. Here’s a great example of an honest expression of faith written by our Lead Wellness Consultant, Lisa Hathaway.

Remember, don’t compare “how good” your expression is to something others might write- all God cares about is hearing our heart.

Jesus to me, is a breath of fresh air

When I take a deep breath and release my cares

Jesus to me, sits with me in my mess

And won’t leave my side until I say yes

Jesus to me, is the foundation I stand 

Solid as a rock, not slippery sand

Jesus to me, holds me so close to His chest

When my life is upside down, He is my rest

Jesus to me, constantly chases me down

To find the one and leave the ninety nine

Jesus to me, is full of love and kindness

Beaconing me to stand in His likeness

Jesus to me, so gentle and sweet

He is my very heartbeat

Jesus to me, does not slumber

He sees all even when I stumble

Jesus to me, is my safe haven from fear

Always protecting me and keeping me near

Jesus to me, is a shield above me

His feathers surround my being

Jesus to me, meets the least of these

In places many that none would want to see

Jesus to me, heals the wounds of our heart

Because of his love for us, it sets us apart

Jesus to me, is worth all the sacrifice and honor

No matter where it takes me, I will walk with the Father

Jesus to me, is walking kingdom minded

To glorify him with all my life.
